The Governor of the Mexican State of Sonora attended ceremonies in Rocky Point to inaugurate the first voyage of the cruise ship Astoria.

In attendance were, among others, Peñasco Mayor Ernesto ‘Kiko’ Munro, as well as John Dennis, Vice President of Cruise and Maritime Voyages.

Mid-day fireworks accompanied the festivities, as the Astoria glided peacefully off shore.

After a day of of greating pasengers, and shuttling them on board, the Astoria set sail after sunset it’s ’Treasures of the Sea of Cortez’ cruise. The 11 day cruise will  pass through the breathtaking beauty found in one of Mexico’s most beloved coastlines, with the first stop in Topolobampo. There are two more cruises lined up to begin when the Astoria returns to it’s Home Port in Rocky Point.
