Easter Week is Semana Santa in Mexico. It is vacation time, and Rocky Point sees its biggest influx of visitors. While families fill the resorts and beaches, Religious celebrations also take place.
The Via Cruces (in English, the Way of the Cross) reenacts the Good Friday events in the life of Christ, leading to the Crucifiction. Starting on the Malecon, the procession winds its way through the Old Port neighborhood. A crowd follows along as participants, dressed as Roman Centurions or mourners, at various places to tell parts of the story.
The walk culminates on a hill overlooking the harbor. Three crosses are raised as the crucifiction is enacted.
