It’s a tradition to get up Sunday morning and bring home a kilo of pork Carnitas (even if you plan to spend the rest of the day in bed). It’s pork that has been boiled with onions and spices, then sauteéd a little. Crunchy and chewy at the same time, Carnitas get dressed up with green salsa, marinated red onions, and drizzled with a squeeze of lime. Are they better on corn or flour tortillas? Better have another one to be sure.
The place to answer questions like this is El Rey Del Taco. A neighborhood tradition for as long as anyone can remember, El Rey is a morning to lunch taco place, with an inside dining area that always has people. Pickled carrots at the table are a nice compliment, but make sure you try the Aguas Frescas. Freshly made mango, pineapple, or melon drinks, they alone are worth the trip here.
Open seven days a week, El Rey del Taco is just behind the Burger King. Look for the logo of the pig who seems way to happy about being part of all this.
