The US Space Agency NASA famously came to the deserts outside of Rocky Point once before. This was in the late ’60’s. The purpose was to test the Lunar Rover vehicle in a place just as harsh as the Moon itself. The black ridges of ancient lava in the Pinacate region were the perfect proving ground.
Planning ahead for a 2030 mission to the red planet, scientists once again will try out the latest technology before shooting it all up into space.
No word yet on whether the great shrimp and cold beer had anything to do with the decision to stop in Rocky Point first.
