Not really an attraction, but down below the dunes behind all of the high rises on Sandy Beach you will find something pretty unique. A football field sized area covered with massive concrete blocks.
Looking a little like Legos for giants, the blocks are part of the Home Port Project. Along the beach by Wrecked at the Reef Restaurant and Bar, you will see a stone and concrete pier stretching out into the deep. It is the first part of a plan to build a home for Cruise ships that will use Rocky Point as the starting point for trips down the coast along the Sea of Cortez. Cruise lines currently ply these waters and bring vacationers to the ports of Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, and other exoctic locals.
So weather you enjoy watching something new taking shape in town, or simple take a perverse pleasure in watching a lot of work going on while you relax with a drink in your hand, the Home Port Project gives us a glimps into the future of Rocky Point.
