Fresh shrimp is what Peñasco is famous for. During the Summer months, fishing stops. Boats get repaired, and the shrimp get a chance to replenish.
But now the game is back on. CONAPESCA, Mexico’s agency that oversees fishing, gave the green light for boats to go back to sea.
It’s not all at once though. For example this week, small boats are allowed to fish in the rich coastal Estuaries all along the Pacific coast. September 20th is the date for the well known shrimpers to make their appearance on the open ocean waters.
For various reasons, last season was kind of off. So far this time, fisherman in San Carlos and other places have been posting photos of some impressively large ‘camarones’. Hopefully that means a good season for those who rely on the sea to make a living.
